Retail skills shops are one-stop, walk-in hubs based on high streets and in shopping centres, operated by trained staff who will offer free advice and suggest courses and learning opportunities to employees and learners.
A small number of skills shops operate virtually and can be fully accessed online. Although run individually by local shareholders such as developers, training providers, Jobcentre Plus and retailers, together these retail skills shops will aim to meet the target of supporting 165,000 people over the first five years – around six per cent of the retail sector.
There are currently 46 retail skills shops that have achieved National Skills Academy for Retail membership which operate independently from key locations throughout the UK.
